Elderly man dies following MTA bus attack

An elderly man died Saturday three weeks after he was brutally beaten on an MTA bus near Culver City. Homicide detectives are now trying to determine if the injuries he sustained in the attack led to his death. His accused attacker, a 35-year-old man, was arrested on felony assault and elder abuse charges at the scene of the attack.

n autopsy is pending today on the body of an 89-year-old man who died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center this weekend, three weeks after he was allegedly beaten on an MTA bus near Culver City.

A Northern California man has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and felony elder abuse after he allegedly beat up an 83-year-old man in what police described as a "road rage rampage." A witness told authorities he tried to stop the fight but was assaulted by the same suspect. A second witness also reported being nearly run over by the suspect, who fled the scene in his car. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, felony elder abuse and battery. The elderly man is in stable condition.

Arrest records reveal that a man accused of attacking a senior citizen in a road rage incident in Rocklin was arrested for battery four days before. He was arrested Saturday for elder abuse, burglary and assault. Rocklin police say he followed the elderly victim to his home Saturday morning where the attack happened.

Police are searching for an Albany caregiver, charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the 86 year old Dougherty County woman she was caring for. Surveillance video from a supermarket shows 46-year-old Patricia Glenn using an 86-year-old woman’s debit card several times to withdraw hundreds of dollars from Prather’s bank account. The total estimated loss is around $7500.

Police responded to a domestic dispute Nov. 7 where a 72-year-old man said his wife and 28-year-old son have accused him of dementia in order to get him to sign documents turning control of his finances over to them, according to the report. The husband/father decided to leave the house for the night. Police notified an elder abuse hotline, which will make contact with the family.

Lifespan of Greater Rochester Inc. will be a key partner in a $1 million elder abuse prevention grant from the U.S. Administration for Community Living. The grant, which is coordinated by the New York State Office for the Aging, was given to test a program that combats financial exploitation and elder abuse in New York.

The woman who deemed it acceptable to punish her mentally disabled daughter by forcing her to wear heavy pieces of plywood that said “I am a liar and a theif (sic)” and to help stitch a head wound with a common needle and thread screamed and fell to the floor as the judge sentenced her to 69 months in state prison. Her daughter was found sobbing, wearing pink fur-covered handcuffs, bleeding from the mouth and wearing the large wooden signs. She had been beaten, starved and forced to sleep outside or stand in the hot sun. The victim’s stepfather, who prosecutors say inflicted much of the physical abuse, received 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to several charges.

A former mayor’s estranged wife is accused of financially exploiting her husband while he was incapable, due to mental or physical dysfunctioning to manage his own resources. She also faces a first degree perfury charge and a second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Prosecutors have filed felony charges against a Tahlequah woman accused of financially exploiting a vulnerable adult. The suspect allegedly took a $3000 insurance check endorsed by the woman, through the check was supposed to be deposited in the victim’s account. Financial exploitation by a caretaker is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of not more than $10,000.

A 27-year-old man with Asperger’s syndrome was found buried in a makeshift grave last week, allegedly tortured and murdered four months earlier by the half-brother he idolized. Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney said it was one of the most tragic cases he’s seen in 33 years.

A Woodinville man who went missing in Kirkland on Saturday afternoon was located by a Seattle resident early Sunday morning. The man was supposed to be at the Life Care Center of Kirkland between 1:30-3:30 p.m. and apparently walked away from the facility. Although somewhat disoriented and confused, he appeared to be unharmed. He was transported to the hospital by private ambulance for evaluation and to be reunited with his family.

A 73-year-old man who suffers from dementia and diabetes  was found wandering in the cold ten miles from home after his council carer allegedly forgot all about him. He was discovered shivering with his clothes soaking wet near a rural farm after he went missing from his flat in an inner city district of Manchester.
