A caretaker faces three years in jail for stealing thousands of dollars from a Pearl Harbor survivor, who was living in filthy conditions in his San Diego County home. The woman was the caretaker for 93-year-old Arnold Bauer, who had dementia and prostate cancer. Prosecutors say she wrote checks totaling more than $7,000 on his account.

Two nurses who worked at the El Dorado Care Center pleaded not guilty this week to felony elder abuse charges in connection with the March 2008 death of 77-year-old Johnnie Esco. The state attorney general claims that their negligent care contributed to the alleged victim’s suffering and death.

The former owner was ordered to perform 120 hours of community service, pay a $1,000 fine and she is prohibited from ownership or having any connection with group homes.

A Toledo man charged with posing as a maintenance worker and stealing from medical buildings and nursing homes was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Tuesday. The suspect was charged with three counts of burglary. He faces up to 24 years in prison if convicted.
