A Stanislaus County man faces charges of elder abuse, but first must recover from a gunshot wound inflicted by his alleged victim. The 88-year-old man called police to report that he was being physically, financially and emotionally abused by his 52-year-old son. His son left the scene, but when he returned and began verbally and physically assaulting his father, the victim shot his son in the arm with a .22 caliber gun.

Gruner charged with multiple elder abuse crimes

US Marshal Service took 38 year-old James David Gruner into custody under outstanding warrants alleging exploitation of the elderly from both St Johns and Putnam Counties. Gruner allegedly accepted money from several elderly neighbors to perform various jobs, left uncompleted. At least 21 cases have been reported, and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is asking additional victims to come forward.

An Atlanta man has been convicted on charges of conspiring with his wife to defraud the Medicare and Medicaid programs by billing them for “worthless services” in the operation of three deficient nursing homes between July 2004 and September 2007.

Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Special Prosecutions today announced the sentencing of two Hardin County women in connection with the financial exploitation of an elderly Clinton County resident. Full restitution of $118,000 was also collected from 74-year-old Hazel F. Martin and 63-year-old Iris Hodge, both of Radcliff, Ky., as per their guilty pleas.
