A 53-year-old woman who was employed by a nursing home is accused of stealing jewelry from residents of that home, including a ring that she allegedly took from the hand of a woman who was awake. She has been charged with theft and financial exploitation.

A new report says Adult Protective Services has not properly investigated abuse allegations at a Lexington group home for disable men. It is suggested that one of the reasons for the failure is because officials are concerned that if the home closed the men there will have nowhere to go.

Psychiatrist Threatens Vulnerable Adult at MN Security Hospital with Electro-convulsive Therapy
A substantiated finding of emotional abuse of a vulnerable adult was found against a psychiatrist at a state Security Hospital. The psychiatrist admits to telling the patient that the brain would be shocked by the procedure, but denies telling the patient to be afraid.

Couple Accused of Mistreating Man With Down Syndrome

Adult Protective Services were notified when a 48-year-old man with down syndrome was brought to the hospital with extensive bruising, sores, and weight loss. His primary caregivers are his brother and his brother’s girlfriend; both were arrested with the charge of multiple counts of first degree criminal mistreatment.

Health regulators have granted a 6-month license to a center for developmentally disabled adults and children after removing 24 children from the same facility mid-January due to alleged abuse of residents.

Jennell Bolds-King is African-American, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, 138 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a turquoise blouse and blue jeans; she wears gold-framed eyeglasses. Lee County Sheriff’s is asking for help locating a 74-year-old man with dementia, Charlie Halcomb. He was last seen in the Pilot truck stop in Fort Myers. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall, approximately 220 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1000.

• The Office for Victims of Crime released a solicitation yesterday under which it will fund up to ten awards of $150,000 to $750,000 to support organizations that use technology creatively to provide outreach and direct assistance to victims, particularly those who have never been served or for whom services are not readily available, nationally and/or internationally (for Americans abroad). OVC plans to fund three categories of projects: National-Scope Victim Service Initiatives, National Scope Victim Service Initiatives Proposing To Serve Underserved Victims Identified by the Applicant, and Victim Service Initiatives for American Victims of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault Abroad.
