The 41-year-old man killed by San Francisco police after he fired numerous shots at officers from his girlfriend's apartment had beaten his mother to death for trying to evict him from her home, authorities said Thursday.

No criminal charges will be filed against a Yuba City man arrested earlier this week on suspicion of elder abuse. He had been accused of repeatedly punching his partially-paralyzed 78-year-old landlord in the head during an argument over rent money and air conditioning.

A Columbus Police Officer’s wife has been sentenced to ten years in prison. The woman admitted to an incident in 2010 when she heated a flat iron and put it to a person’s skin. She was sentenced to ten years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and up to five years post-release supervision.
