Diego has pleaded guilty, San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis
announced Wednesday. Michael Woodward, 50, and his wife, Melissa Woodward, 47,
were arrested at their home in Las Vegas on Apr. 10. The couple was then
extradited to San Diego to face 11 felony charges including burglary, grand
theft, theft from an elder and tax evasion.

U.S. Department of Justice estimates one in nine seniors is victimized each
year, and in the majority of those cases the victim knows their abuser.
In fact, 90% of the time that person is a family member.

A Salisbury woman is behind bars following accusations that she abused an
elderly person under her care. The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office reports
that last Thursday the 53-year-old suspect was taken into custody following an
investigation into the abuse of a vulnerable adult. Police said that the
elderly victim lived in squalid conditions that included feces-laden and
urine-soaked bedding, along with a cockroach-infested bedroom.

Police are warning residents of recent phone scams aimed at senior citizens.
One type of scam last week cost a West Boylston resident $2,000. The man who
was duped is not being identified, but Detective Marcello Tavano said the scam
artists used a relatively common ploy of telling the victim his grandson had
been in an accident and that he needed to send money right away to help with
legal fees.

the suspect stole more than 100 checks and forged them under the signature of
Buchwald's lawyer, according to Manhattan prosecutors. The checks, made payable
to the suspect, allegedly went toward his rent, consulting business, hot tub
repairs, sporting events and other things, prosecutors said.

41-year-old, who cannot move her legs and has limited movement in her arms,

be a builder delivering leaflets.

· The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Criminal Justice Institute presents an Elder Justice Symposium for attorneys, law enforcement personnel, health care and mental health care professionals, social service providers and victim advocates. · The National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA), the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA), the National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA), and the Academy for Professional Excellence present the webinar, “Involving Elected Officials in Coalitions,” will be held on June 27th, 2013 at 1pm EDT/Noon CDT/11amMDT/10am PST.
