For the past three years, Irons, D-Florence, has worked to pass a bill that would create the Elder Abuse Prevention Act. Twice, the bill died before reaching the Legislature. On Thursday Governor Bentley signed the act into law.

A 56-year-old woman has been arrested on charges of elder abuse and child abuse after authorities found what they called "decrepit conditions" at a home in Sun City West. Deputies found the man “terribly underweight” and handcuffed to a soiled bed wearing  a diaper that appeared to have not been changed in a very long time.

Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested a 56-year-old woman on suspicion of elder abuse after her uncle was found handcuffed to a bed, wearing a heavily-soiled diaper. The home was found filled with trash and animal feces from the nine cats and four dogs living inside.

A nurse at a Chapel Hill nursing home pleaded guilty in the overdose death of a patient two years ago. Prosecutors say she gave morphine to at least ine patients in the Alzheimer’s unit at Britthaven of Chapel Hill, telling them it was “liquid vitamins.”
