The victim said he was befriended by the suspect in the Kroger store at City Walk shopping center in June.

Associate Director Iris Freeman, Center for Elder Justice and Policy at William Mitchell College of Law, said, just over the past few years, some 30,000 reports of elder abuse have been received by county social service agencies in Minnesota. These numbers do include police reports and reports to other agencies.

Three men – ages 50, 74, and 80 – were found imprisoned in a small garage as part of a scheme to take their government benefit checks. The suspect allegedly lured his victims into the garage by promising them shelter, food, and care. He has been arrested and charged with felony elder abuse, including allegations that he struck one of the men with a cane.
