A St. Charles bank branch manager faces charges and is accused of withdrawing money from an elderly man’s accounts over a two-year period. She is charged with one count each of financial exploitation of the elderly, forgery and theft – all felonies. St. Charles police were led to the suspect after a six-month investigation that ultimately revealed she stole about $20,000 from an elderly man she knew.

After a six-month-long investigation, a 56-year-old St. Charles woman was charged with financial exploitation of the elderly, forgery and felony theft. The investigation revealed the former branch manager of an MB Financial Bank violated a customer's account by making unauthorized withdrawals of an account between 2009 and 2011.

A jury has convicted a woman of stealing $100,000 from an elderly family member and committing fraud on a financial institution. Sheila Taylor is now being held awaiting sentencing. She faces up to 16 years in prison.

Barbara Braa, a banking trust officer, will provide education on prevention of elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation during a presentation on July 31 in Eudora. She has worked with law enforcement in building financial abuse criminal cases and with attorneys, probate judges and SRS workers to intervene in financial exploitation situations. These collaborative efforts have resulted in reclaiming funds for elders and convictions and jail time for some offenders.

An 80-year-old woman was found with a fractured hip while under the care of her son and his wife.  Doctors determined that she was dehydrated and had suffered internal bleeding that required her to have blood transfusions prior to surgery.

An 81-year-old man who admitted to police that he shot and killed his 79-year-old wife two weeks ago claims that his wife had been abusing him. 911 transcripts show that the man reached out to El Paso Police on several occasions over the past year-and-a-half, alleging his wife physically abused him. "I was hoping somebody would look into it," he said. "Because it was abuse."
