A woman was arrested after leaving a 101-year-old man inside a sweltering car in a parking lot. Police don’t know how long he was in the care before someone found him, but firefighters warn that heat inside a car can become excessive in just minutes, even with the windows open.

A man was arrested for allegedly breaking into an elderly woman’s house and beating her to death. His mother was arrested at his hearing, as investigators say she had been on the run since 2009, after pleading no contest to elder abuse and impersonating a nursing assistant.

The appeals court will decide whether or not the government-run La Salle County Nursing Home can be sued after 10 female residents were sexually abused or targeted for abuse by a resident with a history of sexual misconduct.

A home healthcare worker from Shannon County is charged with one count of financial exploitation of the elderly.  The family of an 84-year-old man who has Alzheimer's disease contacted police after they became concerned about missing money from his bank account. The total estimated loss is around $16,000 so far.

A 53-year-old Anaconda man is accused of conning his 74-year-old mother out of more than $10,000 by claiming ties with the Mafia. The suspect reunited with his mother last year after decades of no contact. When she moved from Hawaii to Anaconda to become more acquainted with her son, he told her he needed $10,000 to repay a loan to the Mafia or they would kill him. He then used the money to buy a motorcycle.

Despite objections by the Wood County Prosecutor’s office, a judge has allowed a Toledo woman who stole more than $200,000 from her former employer to be released after serving just eight months. The judge ordered the woman to pay $10,000 in restitution, perform 300 hours of community service, undergo mental health counseling, obtain lawful employment, and pay court costs.

The state's efforts to reduce prescription painkiller theft in nursing homes has met with a cool reception from Ohio's nursing home industry, which says a letter sent by Attorney General Mike DeWine to facilities contains incomplete and a "potentially misleading description" of their legal obligations for reporting wrongdoing.

Crime against the elderly has increased as indicated in a recent report released by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. A total of 65,220 offenders perpetrated crimes against the elderly between 2009 and 2011. Males were two times more likely to offend against this age group than females. Elderly offenders committing crimes against other elderly constitute the smallest age group of offenders at 4.8 percent over the three-year period.

In light of a recent BBC Panorama documentary released last year, a string of new allegations of abuse have surfaced across the country. Two charities alone have passed on 260 serious cases involving allegations of physical assault, sexual abuse and excessive restraint to the authorities in the last year.
