3 Arrested in Canyon Country Home Probation Check

Three people were arrested during a home probation check, including one on suspicion of elder abuse.  A 54-year-old woman was found in a room surrounded by trash and rotting food; the room also smelled of urine and feces.  The 54-year-old woman was the dependent of another adult in the residence.

A 63-year-old woman and City Council member has been censured and asked to resign her position after she was charged with three felony counts of using her power of attorney position to raid her father’s trust fund for her own benefit from 2009 to 2012.  She plead guilty to one count of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

A 54-year-old man was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult, assault and battery, and kidnapping.  The accused worked as a driver for a care facility.

Two Caregivers Arrested on Elder Abuse Charges Out Of Mercer County

A 34-year-old man and a 48 year-old-woman were charged with abuse of an incapacitated adult and conspiracy.  The victim told investigators that the pair would hit him on the head with a pan or put him in the shower and throw freezing cold water on him as a punishment for “wetting” his pants.

•             The 3rd World Congress on Adult Guardianship will be convened on May 28-30th , 2014 in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. It is sponsored by the National Guardianship Network in affiliation with the International Guardianship Network. •             The Office for Victims of Crime released a solicitation yesterday under which it will fund up to ten awards of $150,000 to $750,000 to support organizations that use technology creatively to provide outreach and direct assistance to victims, particularly those who have never been served or for whom services are not readily available, nationally and/or internationally (for Americans abroad). OVC plans to fund three categories of projects: National-Scope Victim Service Initiatives, National Scope Victim Service Initiatives Proposing To Serve Underserved Victims Identified by the Applicant, and Victim Service Initiatives for American Victims of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault Abroad.
